Dover Days Gone By: The Bicentennial Edition

Dick Vara spent many years collecting and studying the history of Dover. He began with interviews of old Dover residents in the mid-1950's.

In 1976, as a part of our local Bicentennial celebration, he published "Dover Days Gone By", the first history of Dover available since Frank Smith's efforts in the early part of the century.

This book has been out of print for several years so we hope you enjoy leafing through it's virtual pages.

(The image to the left shows the quilt made by Dover residents to celebrate the town's Bicentennial. The quilt is called Dover Days Gone By, after Dick's Book.)
