A Memorial to Richard H. Vara, 1924 - 2006

Dick Vara, 1976Dover was lucky that Dick Vara chose Dover as the town where he and Ann would raise their family.
He was a talented architect with a love of local history.
He translated this love into a gift for his home town. The original Dover Days Gone By was published in 1976 in celebration of the US Bicentennial. The book sold out and Dick steadfastly refused its republication because his later research proved it to be too full of errors. Instead, he continued to interview and research, placing the original book plus his new and revised information on the internet.

When Dick passed on in early 2006, he left the rights to this web site to the Dover Historical Society. He also left the original audio and video taped interviews to the care of the Historical Society.

Please enjoy the fruits of his loving labor.
