School Field Trips
The Society has organized educational activities on a yearly basis with children from the Chickering Elementary and Charles River Schools. It also welcomes local students for research projects that focus on our collections.
Sawin Museum Kitchen
The lower level of Sawin Museum resembles a country kitchen, complete with stove, icebox and utensils.
Sawin Museum Schoolhouse
A 19th-century Dover one-room schoolhouse exhibit with original schoolmasters desk, student desks, chairs and a bookshelf. The museum has many schoolbooks, slates and pen-and-ink workbooks from the original Dover schoolhouses.
Caryl House Weaving Demonstrations
Our “barn frame loom” has in all likelihood stood unused and frozen in time for more than 150 years. You will see it come alive, fully restored to working order and just maybe with someone weaving at it throughout the afternoon.
Dover Days Fair
The Society regularly exhibits at the local Dover Days Fair. Activities in the past have included, flag sewing, period musicians and even an old-fashioned pie eating contest.
Do You Believe in the Dover Demon?
The “Dover Demon” is an alleged cryptozoological creature that was sighted on three separate occasions in the town of Dover, Massachusetts on April 21 and April 22, 1977. It has remained a subject of interest for cryptozoologists ever since then.
